Corporate Journalism

I strongly believe that good corporate communications should be based on the good, old-fashioned journalistic principles of truth and clarity.

To be effective corporate communications must make people understand and believe what they hear and read – and it’s my job to make that happen, both by the way information is presented and the words that are used.

Most of my corporate work in in the oil and gas industry. Some of the publications are read globally, often by people whose first language isn’t English and who aren’t necessarily engineers. That means using clear, easily understood words and ensuring that technical information is made simple.

Currently, I’m a regular technical writer on EP Technology, the global external magazine published by Shell Exploration & Production; am also a technical writer on Registered Gas Engineer, the magazine for domestic and commercial gas engineers on the Gas Safe Register in the UK; produce the staff intranet and newsletter for the Operations Division staff of BP’s North Sea Strategic Performance Unit; and regularly contribute to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Safety and Health Journal.
